Aloha mai kākou,

As a member driven organization, the membership committee plays an important role in supporting the Hawaiʻi Island Chamber of Commerce. Our goals for the Membership Committee this year include:

  1. Recruiting New Members
  2. Promoting Membership Benefits
  3. Growing our Membership Committee

We currently stand strong at 301 members- which include business, individual, and student members.  We continue to see growth in our numbers as we receive new member applications each month! We want to send a big shout out to Miles and Taylor for continuing to provide value and engagement through the weekly Tuesday e-blasts “Support our Fellow Chamber Members”, the weekly Thursday e-blasts “Support our Non-Profit Organizations”, and the monthly e-newsletter “Chamber Connection”.  Letʻs not forget about our Social Media platforms. Be sure to follow us on Instagram @hawaiiislandcc and like our Facebook page  HawaiiIslandChamberofCommerce. We recently created a HICC Members Only Facebook group, which is a private group where members can engage in discussions and further connect with other Chamber members and their employees. If you have Facebook, please join the group and invite your fellow co-workers and fellow Chamber members to join as well.

Please join us in welcoming our newest members! We hope you will connect with them by calling or sending them an email, stopping by their business, or visiting their website.

We also want to recognize our newest Special Investors:

  • Waiākea, Inc. – Emerald Level Special Investor
  • Big Island Publishers, LLC-  Ruby Level Special Investor
  • Suisan Company, Ltd – Topaz Special Investor

On behalf of the Membership Committee, a big mahalo to Geoli Ng from Waiākea Hawaiian Volcanic Water, Patrick Edwards from Big Island Publishers, LLC, and Steve Ueda and Renae Akau from Suisan Company, Ltd. for your support!

On February 16th, we had our Virtual New Member Orientation. We always try to have a fun theme and since it was Mardi Gras, we had a Mardi Gras theme of purple, green, gold, and beads! We hold these orientations every quarter and invite all of our newest members to attend. New members are given the HICC 101 crash course where they learn more about our chamber, their member benefits, and the various ways to participate and make the most of their membership. They are introduced to our Executive Committee and Committee Chairs and we get to hear from them about what they do and why they decided to join. The orientation also gives members a great opportunity for networking. We played a Kahoot! Trivia game and even had a virtual scavenger hunt. At the end, we had a virtual message board where everyone was able to exchange contact information and shared a fun fact about themselves. Mahalo to all who were able to join us!

Lastly, weʻd like to recognize the members in our Membership Committee who help to support our program and goals. Mahalo to Ben Mark from Peco Arts, Dennis Lin from HPM Building Supply, Ed Bisquera from Inbound808, Gordon Takaki, and Rhea Lee-Moku for your continued participation and involvement. We appreciate you!

We are always looking for new members to join us on the Membership Committee! If you or any of your employees are interested in learning more about what the Membership Committee does, we invite you to join us at our next monthly meeting on Friday, March 12th at 11:30am via Zoom. We welcome you to sit in on a meeting so that you may decide if the Membership Committee is something you would like to be active in. Please contact Taylor or Miles and they will help to connect you with us.

Me ka mahalo nui,

Kapaelani Comstock and Kimberly Pua
