GAC Chair David Kurohara

It’s been an active 2025 State Legislative session with much to report on. Our Chamber Executive Committee discussed and decided on many proposed bills introduced by the members or state or county representatives. Each bill must align with the HICC Strategic Priorities and Areas of Interest and once alignment is established, we hope to gain movement and traction of these bills we supported, as they move through both Senate and House committee meetings. Before each voted, testimony is given within 24 – 48 hours’ notice however due to changes in the bills, the time to submit may be within hours of that same day.  The GAC is seeking members to be added to the list that assists with giving written testimony on Senate and House bills that HICC supports. This is all done electronically via the State Legislation website. Here’s a list of bills HICC has tracked this past session.

The GAC is happy to announce its new co-chair, Joy Dillon. Joy serves on the Hawai’i Island Realtor Government Affairs Committee as its Chair and is a realtor working with Mary Begier Realty. Joy has helped the GAC by tracking many Senate and House bills through the process, provided updates and prompts when testimony is due. This type of work is laborious and time consuming! This co-chair position also provides continuity and cadence for the GAC. If you would like to join the GAC, please contact the Chamber office at info@hicc.biz
