Hawaiian Telcom Named Top-Rated Internet Provider in Hawai‘i
by Ookla®, a Global Leader in Connectivity Intelligence
Honolulu, Hawai‘i — Internet speed for home and business has become an increasingly important criterion in choosing an internet service as data-rich applications become more sophisticated.

However, the validity of claims made by internet service providers that they are the fastest are difficult to assess without an independent, objective source. Ookla, a global leader in connectivity intelligence, fills this gap with unmatched connectivity insights based on consumer-initiated tests taken with Speedtest.

Ookla is best known for its two signature products: its Speedtest app and Downdetector platform. Based on the data they have collected from Hawai‘i users, Ookla has bestowed on Hawaiian Telcom two coveted recognitions: “Top Rated Internet” and “The Best Gaming Experience,” surpassing other competing internet services providers in Hawai‘i.
“This is a great honor for the entire Hawaiian Telcom ‘ohana. We know families working and relaxing at home all want faster speeds to conduct virtual meetings, stream movies, and play games,” said Su Shin, Hawaiian Telcom president, whose company delivers internet speeds of up to 3 gigabit upload and download speeds. “Hawai‘i’s small businesses that form the backbone of our local economy also need speed, and do not have patience for buffering, delays from network latency, or images that freeze in mid-conversation. We’re raising the standards in the way families and businesses connect with each other.”

In January 2025, Hawaiian Telcom announced its plans to make Hawai‘i the first fully fiber-enabled state in the nation by the end of 2026.

“These recognitions inspire us to keep pressing forward to rapidly expand our Fioptics fiber-optic network to offer reliable, faster internet service across our islands,” Shin added.

The “Top Rated” designation is based on an analysis by Ookla® of Speedtest Intelligence® data, Customer Ratings, State of Hawaii, Q3–Q4 2024. The “Top Gaming Experience” designation is based on an analysis by Ookla® of Speedtest Intelligence® data, Game Score, State of Hawaii, Q3–Q4 2024.
